Where your contribution goes
The United Way of Linn County supports twenty-six, non-profit agencies. The agencies funded are focused on creating a better Linn County by focusing on services that improve the building blocks for a good life, Education, Income and Health. Community members receive these services regardless of income level or social class. The United Way of Linn County (UWLC) conducts an annual workplace fund raising campaign to benefit these human service agencies.

Once the fund raising process for the year is complete, monies from the general fund are allocated to UWLC’s partner agencies. UWLC depends strongly on a citizen-based Funds Allocation Process that is specifically designed to hold UWLC and our partner agencies accountable. Community involvement also ensures relevant human service needs are met in Linn County.

Allocation panels consisting of over 100 community volunteers are needed to operate the allocation process. Volunteers act as panel members reviewing agency programs, analyzing budget proposals, visiting partner agencies for a behind the scenes look at operations and convening as a group to provide an acurate account of how their last grant was spent and what changes they have for the coming year.

The allocation process is open to all community members. Volunteers are asked to attend a volunteer orientation, scheduled in early April. Volunteers are divided into panels and meet with their panel chairs (members of the Funds Distribution Committee). Each panel is normally assigned two (2) partner agencies for review during this process.
The Funds Distribution Committee will present final funding recommendations to UWLC’s Board of Directors at the end of May.
