Needs Assesment Survey community matters.
United Way of Linn County conducts a yearly survey to find the most pressing health and human service needs in your community. The survey is used to pinpoint areas of service that need attention. Together, United Way and community organizations work on finding solutions to create a positive measurable change.

2005 Community Needs Assessment Results
Introduction: The United Way of Linn County conducted a survey of Linn County health and human service providers in the fall of 2005. Surveys were sent to individuals who worked directly with the public in a health and human service provider capacity.
More than 75 individual responded to the following questions:
- Regarding basic human needs, what are the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County today?
- Regarding children age 1-8, what do you see as the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County ?
- Regarding children age 9-18, what do you see as the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County?
- Regarding seniors, what do you see as the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County ?
- Regarding people with disabilities, what do you see as the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County ?
- Regarding health and wellness, what do you see as the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County ?
- Regarding self-sufficiency, what do you see as the most pressing health and human service needs in Linn County ?
Organizations surveyed included the following: -Albany, Lebanon , and Sweet Home police departments -Commission on Children and Families
-Corvallis Clinic
-Greater Albany Public School District
-Lebanon Community School District
-Linn Benton ESD -Linn County Health Department -Linn County Sheriff’s Department -Samaritan Health -State of Oregon Department of Health and Human Services -United Way Partner Agencies
Summary of results:
Health care and drug abuse were listed as major issues affecting basic human needs and community health and wellness mental health, medication assistance, and dental care were listed separately from health care, but could be included in the overall health care category.
Health care and drug abuse were named as concerns as they affect children of all age groups. However, for children between the ages of 1-8, quality child care was the major area of concern. Drug issues for children under 8 are related to their relationship with their parents. Drug issues for children 9-18 include the direct use of drugs by the child.
Health care and transportation were the primary issues facing seniors and people with disabilities. For seniors, medication assistance was also a major concern. For people with disabilities, employment opportunities and access to resources were additional issues.
Survey respondents were also asked to list the most pressing issues related to self-sufficiency. Employment and transportation were the highest challenges to those living in Linn County . Affordable housing was also a major concern of survey participants.
